Frequently Asked
Everything we’re asked.
The full list — process, photos, styles, products, shipping, returns, and the parts behind the scenes. If something here isn’t covered, our team replies within an hour.
The Process
From your photo to the final piece.
What actually happens between you uploading a photo and receiving artwork in the mail.
Yes — and we’re a little obsessed with this part. Painted Whiskers is built to hold onto the things that make your pet your pet: the face, the markings, the way they tilt their head, the look they give you when they want a treat. We render that into the style you picked, not over it.
We always send back three variations from the same photo so you can pick the one that captured them best. If the first round doesn’t quite catch them, retry costs nothing — and a clearer, well-lit close-up usually solves it. The photo you start with is the single biggest factor in how much the final piece feels like them.
Your Photos
What to upload — and why it matters.
The photo you start with is the single biggest factor in how the portrait turns out. Here’s how to give us a good one.
A close-up of your pet’s face, taken in good light, shot at eye level — that’s the gold standard. The better the photo, the more faithfully the portrait keeps your pet’s actual features instead of generic ones.
- Close-up: their face fills most of the frame.
- Sharp focus: in particular, the eyes.
- Natural daylight or soft window light beats flash photography.
- JPG or PNG, ideally 1024×1024 or larger.
Phone photos are absolutely fine. Group shots, very dim photos, motion-blurred photos, or extreme angles (a top-down nose-cam) tend to give the AI fewer features to lock onto.
Styles & Output
The art side of things.
Styles, variations, and what you can do with the artwork once it’s yours.
Over two hundred curated styles, organized into packs — Classic Art Styles, Pop Art, Psychedelic Drift, Nouveau Psychedelic Posters, Neo-Constructivist Pop, American Realist, and growing. Some are faithful homages to art movements (Renaissance oils, Art Nouveau, Japanese woodblock); others are deliberately weird in the way only generative work can be.
Products & Shipping
Where the portrait lives next.
Prints, canvas, apparel, accessories, and how they make it to your door.

- Apparel: all-over-print tees, sweatshirts, and hoodies (your portrait covers the whole garment), or classic front-print tees, sweatshirts, and hoodies.
- Accessories: phone cases cut for specific iPhone and Samsung models, ceramic mugs, fleece blankets, throw pillows, jigsaw puzzles, totes, art socks.
- Digital: a high-resolution download, or the full pack with every variation upscaled to 4K and print-ready.
Accounts & Privacy
Signing in, signing up, signing out.
Account flows, data handling, and how older work gets attached to your profile.
No. Anything you generated in the same browser before creating an account is automatically linked to your account when you sign up or sign in — provided you’re on the same device. If you started in a different browser or on a different device, write us and we’ll help reunite you with them.
Support, Returns & Care
If anything goes sideways.
What to do when something arrives wrong, plus a few of the questions we get most often.
Get in touch via the contact page or reply to your order confirmation email. If a print arrives damaged in shipping, the wrong size, or doesn’t match the preview, we replace it. Apparel sizing exchanges are handled case-by-case; the size charts in product detail are accurate, so it helps to check those before ordering.
